Used Gear

Whether you're looking for a great deal on previously enjoyed gear, want to get some cash for your used music equipment, or want to trade in your old instrument for something new, Guitar Showcase has you covered. Check out just a sampling of used items we have up on E-Bay, followed by our used gear guidelines:

Our goal 100% of the time is to ensure our customers have a great experience when doing business with us, so there are a few things we want you to know about used gear for when you decide to sell.

  1. We are happy to give FREE estimates or appraisals but not without physically inspecting the item. We know it can be a drag to load up your amp, keyboard, or drum set and drive across town for an appraisal, but we cannot know an item's condition or exact value without thoroughly inspecting it first. This ensures that you get an accurate appraisal.

  2. Price guides do not necessarily reflect the actual price at which we can sell your item. Often times there is a discrepancy between what a vintage guitar buying guide or used gear guide says an item is worth and what customers will pay for an item. The same goes for on-line sales. Itís impossible to know what the sellerís motivation was, and circumstances can have an effect on selling prices. Think of used gear sort of like used cars. Edmunds, Kelly Blue Book, and the National Automobile Dealers Association will all have different estimated values for used cars, but at the end of the day, the real world value is only as much as people are willing to pay. It all comes down to supply and demand.

  3. All gear is not created equal. While we try to carry everything the modern musician could want, our forte is guitars. Hey itís Guitar Showcase. Of course we do Amps, Pedals, and other gear too, so please give us a call and weíll try to help.

  4. We like to take in quality, working gear, unless itís a Vintage Guitar, Amp or Pedal. For Vintage gear, itís always best to bring it in regardless of condition, since there is usually a good market for older gear, even if it needs work and looks terrible. Please be sure your item is as close to showroom ready as possible when you bring it in. Dust it off, polish it, find the power supply, and make sure all the major components are working properly before we see it. This makes the item more attractive to buyers and easier for us to sell.

  5. But, if you donít want to fool with it, weíll still try to help, the price will just reflect the work necessary to get it in shape. Note: Most Guitars and Basses will probably need new strings and a minor set-up.

We BUY Used Gear!

We take in hundreds of used and consignment pieces every month, so check in frequently to see what rare gems we have in stock. Though our specialty is guitars, you'll also find great deals on used amps, pedals, drum sets, keyboards, microphones, live sound equipment, and recording gear. Just look for the tags with one of these logos:

Looking to get some cash for your used gear, but don't want to hassle with the legwork? No problem. Our used gear specialists will work with you to get the most value out of your used gear. We offer two options for you to sell your gear:

Option 1 - Consignment: This method takes time and only works for gear worth over $1,000. Anything less, and weíll just buy it from you. Itís easier and the time, effort, and paper work is just not worth it for either of us. If the item is over $1,000, the process is simple. You and one of our buying managers will work together to come up with a sale price for your item, and when it sells we will write you a check for 65% of the final selling price. After ten days of the item being in our showroom, customers can make offers, which you can approve, reject, or counter...AND, should you decide to use your check towards the purchase of another item in our store, you save another 10% on the consignment fees and you can apply 75% of the final selling price towards your purchase!

Note: If you would like your item listed on our E-Bay store, there is an additional 10% charge to cover the E-Bay, Pay Pal fees and Photo and listing expenses. For some rare and esoteric items, this may a good way to go, as the worldwide exposure that E-Bay brings to the table often times means a higher selling price.

Option 2 - Store Buy: We will buy most of your used gear. By selling directly to us, you get your money right away; and often times the amount you net is the same or even better than if it were sold on consignmentóand you get INSTANT $$!

As items change in value, condition, and popularity, so does the amount of money we can reasonably offer for an item. There is a risk associated with all used gear we take in to sell. Sometimes things break, need repairs, arrive with missing accessories, or simply don't sell. When we buy gear, we take two things into consideration: what is a reasonable selling price and how long we think it will take to sell. Those two factors together help us determine how much we think we can sell an item for and how much to pay for used gear. Simply put, the harder it will be for us to sell an item, the less money we can offer; the easier it is to sell, the more money we can offer. The range can be as low as 30% of what we price an item, for slow movers, to 75% for highly sought after items. Most items we buy fall somewhere in the middle at 50% of the final selling price. As always, we have to see the item before we can make an offer. We recommend calling us (408-377-5864) to arrange a time for us to check out your used musical equipment, or simple bring it by the shop for a FREE appraisal.

TRADE: We LOVE Trade-ins!

Trade in your old guitar, Amp or Pedal for a new or used one! We take trades on all kinds of musical equipment, which you can use as credit towards the purchase of another item in our store. Just like the "SELL" section above, you are essentially selling your gear to us as a Store Buy, only when trading towards a new piece of gear, you usually get an additional 10% of the used item sale value.
